My first produce box arrived yesterday, and I was way too excited. I signed up with Newleaf Natural Grocery in Rogers Park and ordered their weekly $15 mixed vegetable and fruit box. My first delivery included:
- Mesclun salad
- 1 package of mushrooms
- A bunch of cilantro
- 1 acorn squash
- 4 parsnips
- 1 avocado
- 1 mango
- 3 gala apples
- 2 bananas
I ended up running late for my evening plans because I had to wait for the vegetable guy, but I quite enjoyed telling people I was waiting for my vegetable guy. I’ve never had “a guy” (or a girl) like that. I’m still trying to figure out the best way to have the produce delivered without having to plan my day around it. But, right now, I’m planning my menus for the week, in order to make the best use of my vegetables.
The fruit doesn’t really need any planning. I’ll just eat it. Like today, I’m having some mango for breakfast. I don’t even remember the last time I had mango. But I recently watched the “The Mango” episode of Seinfeld, and ever since I’ve had a taste for mango. Not because of THAT; because it just sounded really good.
