I have a love/hate relationship with the Food Network. I can spend hours watching show after show on a lazy Saturday or Sunday, particularly those hosted by Ina Garten, Mario Batali, Nigella Lawson, Bobby Flay, Michael Chiarello and, of course, Giada De Laurentis. Love her. (Although not so much in these pictures – ew.)
On the other hand, I’m not such a fan of the Sandra Lee, Paula Deen and Robin Miller vehicles, not to mention anything that involves power tools. My opinion on Rachael Ray varies, although her endorsement deal with Dunkin Donuts didn’t help. (Full disclosure: I just ate two glazed chocolate Munchkins, so take my little opinion with a big grain of salt.)
I was excited when I heard about Food Network’s newest show, Simply Delicioso with Ingrid Hoffman, and set the DVR to record one of the first episodes in which she prepares a meal to take sailing. Of course, every Food Network episode needs a theme, right? You can’t just make food to make food. That would be way too boring.
Her recipes seemed like rather odd choices to take out on the water – Chipotle Tamale Pie and Arugula, Avocado and Fennel Salad – but I’ve never been sailing, so what do I know? I do know that both recipes were incredibly easy and very tasty. And her show was fun to watch.
I added a little too much lemon juice to my salad dressing, making the salad a bit too tart, but stick to the measurements in the recipe and it will be fine.
